I admire how you explore love and complexity, something I, and many of us, know well—though it's not easy to find the right words. Sandy was indeed brave, and so are you!

What a beautiful piece, expressed with such so much heart and a fitting touch of humor. It's nice to see that Sandy wasn't the only gifted writer born of this family.

Such a wonderful reflection, Lola. Hard to put into words, the sibling journey, yes? You did it so beautifully.

In addition, as I weep through an entire uninterrupted reading for the second time , I think how special you and Sandy were in my life. Big time. Seven of my dad’s 9 siblings had a bunch of kids, a lot of cousins on that side, but I was so much more connected with you guys, your dad and my mom saw to that.

Three years younger than Sandy, three years older than you…. I envied you for being allowed to wear miniskirts and Sandy for being allowed to be politically opinionated. In a way, truly, you guys helped form, or least confirm, my social, political, and familial identity and my interest in music (and some perhaps less famous but totally wonderful singer/songwriters)

Truly that significant.

Old letters I have saved through the ages affirm that

Lola, I love you and I love Sandy

Forever and ever
